McCreary County Museum
Located in the heart of Historic Stearns, the McCreary County Museum is housed in the old Stearns Coal and Lumber Company Corporate headquarters, built in 1907. The Museum was founded in 1988 and we invite everyone to visit and explore our unique history.
Remember Those Who Served. All Gave Some, Some Gave All. The Memorial Day Train will be May 27th, 2019 at 11:00 AM! At 10:30 AM a memorial ceremony will be held in cooperation with the VFW. We look forward to seeing everyone there to SUPPORT our VETERANS.
Father's Day Train Ride
Father’s Day Train - June 14, June 15th, and June 16 A BSFSRY train ride along Roaring Paunch Creek and a steak dinner from the Whistle Stop (not included in the ticket price) in the Depot - what more could dad want for Father’s Day? Well, he might like to play a round of golf at the Stearns Golf Course! Celebrate Dad with us in Stearns, KY!
Visit the Museum
The Museum is filled with historic documents, objects, and photographs pertaining to Historic Stearns and McCreary County, including exhibits that demonstrate the culture and lifestyle of McCreary Countians over the years. Our Museum overlooks the town of Stearns which features the Big South Fork Scenic Railway and local craft and gift shops.
Schedule and Pricing
April: Thursday thru Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm
May thru October: Wednesday thru Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm, and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm
November: Thursday thru Saturday, 11 am to 4 pm Closed Thanksgiving Day.
Annual Christmas Open House: 2nd Saturday of December 12 pm to 4 pm
December thru March: By appointment only.
Children (ages 5-12): $3.00
