The McCreary County Museum
Located in the heart of Historic Stearns, the McCreary County Museum is housed in the old Stearns Coal and Lumber Company Corporate headquarters, built in 1907.
The Museum is filled with historic documents, objects, and photographs pertaining to Historic Stearns and McCreary County, including exhibits that demonstrate the culture and lifestyle of McCreary Countians over the years. Our Museum overlooks the town of Stearns which features the Big South Fork Scenic Railway and local craft and gift shops.

The Museum was founded in 1988 and we invite everyone to visit and explore our unique history.
About Us
Our Mission
McCreary County has a rich history with impressive landmarks and historical items of interest to the public at large. The mission of the McCreary County Museum is to collect, preserve, and protect artifacts which reveal the heritage of the people of McCreary County. Staff and volunteers organize and archive historic documents, upgrade exhibits as needed, maintain the building in which the museum is housed, create new and/or rotating exhibits, and sponsor community events and activities in support of local artists.
